Wagon Wheel
The oldest known example of a wooden Wagon Wheel and axle was found in 2003 in Slovenia. The wheel is made of Ash, and its axle is made of Oak. Radiocarbon dating places Wagon Wheel between 5,100 and 5,350 years ago. The question of which culture originally invented the wheel remains unresolved.
The Wagon Wheel pictured was most likely produced in the late 1800s. Given the size and number of spokes, it was probably used on a heavy freight wagon.
